Russian gas transit shipments to Europe via Ukraine declined 47% in January-April, its lowest in nearly 30 years, as Russia redirected volumes through the new Turkstream pipeline, TSO of Ukraine (TSOU) data showed on Tuesday.
The volume was the lowest for a January-April period since Ukraine gained independence from the Soviet Union in 1991, at 15.2bcm, data showed.
Tsou director Sergiy Makogon attributed the decline to the launch of the Russia’s 31.5bcm Turkstream gas pipeline in January, which links Russia with Turkey and southern Europe via the Black Sea.
